Project: Shape Catalogue
Due: Wednesday, Jan 28th
NOTE We MEET AT 830 Am on this day, not 800am…
Project Description: Through direct observation of the Student Union at UNCG, students will create a catalogue of shapes and their uses. This catalogue will compromise 4 sets of drawn shapes and supporting written descriptions.
Time Line:
Begin at Student Union at 9:00am.
Instructions:
1. Work individually.
2. Explore the various areas and spaces inside of the Student Union. Exploring means that you need to move around. Walk around and go everywhere. This can include both public and private space. Do not ignore the hidden, less traveled spaces for subtle shapes often over-looked. For private space, always ask permission.
3. From observation, create a catalogue of 32 different shapes and their uses. Use paper and pencil.
4. Find and document 8 different shapes and their uses for each of the following 4 categories:
- Functional Shapes
- Non-Functional Shapes
- Implied Shapes
- Ephemeral Shapes
Documentation:
- Document each shape with a single, contour line. (No Value) Be sure to get it right. Erase and redraw as necessary. Be as accurate as possible.
- 2. A text-based description should accompany each shape. This should include (but not be limited to) the location and purpose of each shape, along with any other observations or comments that will help describe the context of this shape.
Material:
- Use only paper, pencil and erasers.
